Dr. George Richter-Addo of the University of Oklahoma Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry has been selected to receive the 2023 Oklahoma Chemist Award. Richter-Addo began his career as Assistant Professor at OU in 1993. He is being recognized for excellence in the research of nitric oxide interactions with biological metals and for contributions to chemical education in the state of Oklahoma. His research group has been exceptionally productive, publishing more than 130 journal articles, 8 authoritative review articles, and 3 invited book chapters. He has mentored 17 Ph. D. students, 7 M. S. graduates and 13 post-doctoral associates.
Richter-Addo has also provided exceptional leadership to numerous committees and professional organizations, the most notable being eight years as chairperson of the OU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry. During his tenure, he worked with the OU administration to raise funding for a state-of-the-art-new facility for the research, core facilities, and administrative programs of the department. He oversaw planning and design, facilitated moving of labs and personnel and, in 2010, opened the new $80M Stephenson Life Sciences Research Center (SLSRC).
Presentation of the 2023 Oklahoma Chemist Award will be made at the upcoming Southwest Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SWRM 2023) in Oklahoma City, followed by a lecture given by the honoree. The awards luncheon will be held at noon on November 17th at the Omni Hotel Oklahoma City. For more information about SWRM 2023 or to register to attend this event, visit, https://swrm.org .
